Members-Only Western-Style Banquet—June 14

 

We’re having a Texas barbeque—herbal style! Mark your calendars now for the June 14 Members-Only Western-Style Banquet! The evening begins at 6:30 with appetizers and socializing. The barbeque banquet starts at 7:00. Dress casual, but add a Western flair to your outfit for the night. Pull out that pink-sequined cowgirl hat, that old Stetson, a bandana, or some cowboy or cowgirl boots, and you’re all set!

 

Herb society members are encouraged to whip up a special herbal barbecue sauce to enter in the Barbecue Sauce Contest. See the Rules and Guidelines, HERE!

Judging the sauces will be Brian Montgomery. You’ll remember him from the Texas Farm to Table Café at the Pearl Brewery (www.texasfarmtotable.com). Another stellar judge will be John Griffin from the San Antonio Express News.  The sauces will be brought in by 6:00 and judged at 6:15. They will be available to taste with dinner. Yum!

 

Count on some Western-style entertainment, too. You may want to kick up your heels and dance because the Texas Thunder Cloggers will be entertaining us with some cowboy tunes this evening. Yee Ha!

 

The main entrée and nonalcoholic beverages will on the chuck wagon for you, but members are asked to bring a dish according to the list below. If your last name begins with…

A–G: Bring an appetizer.

H–R: Bring a salad or side dish.

S–Z: Bring a dessert.

 

Please increase your recipe to serve at least 12 people. Our attendance will most likely include 80 people or more, and we’re a hungry bunch of cowpokes! Don’t forget to type a copy of your recipe, and bring it with your dish, so that everyone can try it at home. And if you e-mail the recipe to our newsletter editor, Rebecca Kary (karyrebecca@yahoo.com), she’ll be able to include it more easily in the next newsletter. If you are busy or don’t like to cook, any prepared dish from the store will do. Everyone will still appreciate your efforts.

 

So, saddle up, put on your Western duds, and get ready for a boot-stompin’ good time!

 

Please note: The banquet is for members and their significant others only. Also, our regular vendor tables will not be set up at the banquet, but they will return next month.
